Oh how you've grown
Lauren,
First off, I have to apologize for not writing to you for the last 9 months. How I can let so much time go by without writing to you? I know it's super important to document everything you're going through so that someday, you can read this and know how much joy you bring to me and your Dad. I also want to reflect back on your childhood someday and relieve all of these moments we have with you. You are precious and I love you so much.
What really triggered me to write this letter to you today is that you told me yesterday you wanted to me a mommy. I know you're only 3.5 years old but I am thrilled to be a grandma someday. Not only did you wanted to be a mommy, but you wanted 6 kids! Rock on baby girl!
So, a lot has happened. I'll try to capture as much as I can from memory. We lost your only grandfather, Ta-Ta, on June 14, 2014. Daddy, Mommy and a lot of your aunts and uncles were there will him. He was elder and ill and his health had deteriorated since 12/31/13. He hung on for 6 months, being in and out of the nursing facility/hospital/convalescent home/rehab center. You understood that he is gone but I don't think you fully comprehended it all, which in some way I am grateful for.
You started school a day after we cremated your grandpa. Mommy and Daddy were so proud of you, being in Mrs. Estes' class and you enjoyed it and looked forward to Mommy and Daddy coming to pick you up. You started the 3 year old program last September and you've been doing great with school. You started out crying but would stop after 10 minutes or so. Then we had to leave you in extended care since Grandma went to Cambodia and we didn't have anyone to watch you. Since the beginning of this year, you don't cry anymore and sometimes even almost forget to give Mommy a hug and kiss. I know one day those hugs and kisses will end when I drop you off, but I'm hoping it won't be for a long while. You enjoy me coming to watch you play during recess and showing me what you're doing and your friends. Oh, your first childhood crush? James. He's in your class and I can see how you guys loop arms and he puts his hands on your shoulders and you run into each other's arm to embrace a hug. Yup. You said that he's Jack Frost and you're Queen Elsa. I'm enjoying watching you grow.
About a month ago, you learned how to write your name all by yourself. You count to 30 by yourself We're still working on your coloring, and that's improving, and we're still working on practicing puzzles.
You are feisty, love to 'bounce' still, but kind and gentle at the same time. You don't like to do your homework, you love your sandbox, don't like vegetables, still suck on your fingers, still wear pull-ups to poop and sleep at night, don't like taking baths, loves Frozen still, loves play-doh and YouTube, love to wear big sparkly dresses and you like to cook. You said 'shit' for the very first time on Easter this year. Yes, that's right. You also say "shut the front door" and "mother father!" Precious right? Haha.
We took you to Disneyland for the first time in December 2014 and you loved it. In fact, you've been asking us to take you back there again. Too bad it's crazy pricey. Auntie Kelly had an extra ticket so I took you there two weeks ago and you had a great time with Matthew and Chi Loli.
We also took you on a nice, big vacation to Oahu. It's funny cause you kept saying 'Ga-wa'hoo'. You loved Hawaii. You've been asking to go back. Of course. We stayed at Aulani, The Disney Resort and Spa and it was spectacular. Daddy got us a complimentary upgrade and we stayed in an ocean view room. The rooms weren't impressive but the resort was really nice. You hiked Diamondhead without a hitch, ate like a boss, we went to Waimea Falls, Dole Plantation, ate at Giovanni's, went to Kualoa Ranch and hung out at the resort. We swam in the infinity pool, rode the floats in the lazy river, played on the sand and in the private lagoon. We watched the luau shows and ate a lot of Ulu's since we had 24 complimentary meals there which really helped with cost. You didn't like the plane rides too much but still, it was a ton of fun. To top it off, your cousins Jasmine, Trinity, Talvin, along with their two cousins, Jadelynn and Kylie-Ann, you had a blast. It was definitely one of the best trips ever.
Unfortunately, Mommy and Daddy are still struggling to give you a sibling. I want to apologize to you and let you know that we're doing everything we can and feel comfortable with to try to give you the 'baby sister' you ask about. You told me yesterday that you want me to have a baby and that almost broke my heart. I want another one of you too but it's been so hard. I feel more guilt about not giving you a sibling than I am about having another for myself. I am so blessed and grateful to have you. I have faith that our family is perfect however it is.
On a better note, you will be getting a cousin if that is any consolation. Auntie Michelle is pregnant with baby David. You are so blessed to have a total of 14 cousins to play with. They all love you and baby you.
Ok baby girl, I'll try to write you more often to let you know everything you're doing. I love you to the moon and back. I love you always.
Love,
Mommy

Shows, Living and Life
Lauren,
Right now, you are still loving Tinkerbell but you also love Little Einstein, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Sofia the First, Doc McStuffins and a little bit of Barney. You used to love love love Yo Gabba Gabba about 6 months ago, but now you're a big girl. You like to dress up in your TinkerBell costume and talk to Mommy's fake orchid plant calling it Baby Tulip and telling it to bloom. You are too cute! You even insisted that Baby Tulip sleep in your toddler bed. Haha.
By the way, there's been some changes to our household. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Grandma and Grandpa are staying with us for now. Grandma is in your room, and you're in my room, and Grandpa is in the nook area, while the dining table is now in the formal living room. You've adjusted to it pretty well and even slept in Grandma's room for the first couple of nights. I know Mommy has your heart, cause soon, you were back sleeping with Mommy. I love you so much. Thank you for being so awesome.
I took you outside to the front of the house when I was there for lunch and you rode your tricycle around the neighborhood. The weather was nice and you're a great rider. You only fell over once! Haha. I love days like these and it makes me working close to home so worth it. I love having you as my lunch buddy.
I'll try to write more often and post more pictures for you. I love you so much and you are telling me that now too. I mean, you've learned how to say it but I know that you really feel it cause when you see me come home, you rush to me and tell me that you love me so much! Awww, melts my heart. I love you always.

Update
Lauren,
I'm so sorry it's been such a long time since I last wrote to you. So much has happened and I'm busy living all of these special moments with you.
The biggest milestone since you gave up your bottle when you were 2 is being potty trained. You've been potty trained since January, when you're 2.5 years old. I am sooo proud of you. You kinda just let us know when you were ready. You still prefer to poop in your diaper still but you're doing great. You also wear diapers at night but overall, Mommy and Daddy are so happy you are potty trained.
Now that you're potty trained, I registered you to start preschool in the fall. I meant to register you for summer school too, but I got cold feet. After more thought, I think you're very ready for school. You will be starting on 6/23/14. I got really emotional dropping off your registration packet and thought about how you're growing up so fast. It will be beneficial for you to go to school and learn and play. You'll still get to be at home with your grandma, but you'll also get some schooling done too. I know I'm going to be a mess when the day comes.
You're still in your dance class but we only have 2 more sessions left. You're doing ok in class. You were really good in the beginning but now you don't care to follow instructions so much anymore. It's ok because that's why we have you in the class. I signed you up for swimming next month so that should be fun.
You are talking sooo much! I mean full complete sentences.
Mommy and Daddy are working on your birthday party this summer. You love parties and blowing out the cake so we decided to throw you a party. Maybe next year you'll decide to take a trip instead of having a party, but we'll let you decide.
I love you so much and I promise to write you more often. In the meantime, grow, learn, thrive, be healthy and happy! I love you always.
